Tilghman's Island way back when!

Our Grandfathers, our people are a part of this land - how then can they say give us this, or let us purchase that ?
True there is room for another small tribe , but how many more will come? Will their weapons and their strange customs offend Manit’o?

Even so the Captain upon his return told all who would listen of the unspoiled paradise this land offered. The  land fertile and water teeming with life. The  people gentle and peaceful.
More and more outsiders come making claims on the land and fencing large swaths off and calling it their own.

Sometimes they would come down to the “Indian Village” to negotiate for their land . Other times , as if any man could lay claim to the earth mother , they would just fence off large portions for themselves and warn the people to stay  away.

Once there was food  and game enough for all . Now there is starvation. The people forced away from their accustomed hunting and fishing grounds. Compelled to depend on the very people that displaced them or be accused of theft and trespassing. A thing unknown to the people!
